Job Description:
Position Overview
Responsible for delivering on-site technical support, including troubleshooting, inspection, repair, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical rotating equipment. This role ensures safe, reliable, and high-quality service to customers across Oil & Gas, Marine, Utilities, and Industrial sectors.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electromechanical Technology.
- 3–7 years of experience in service of motors, alternators, and controls. Experience in Oil & Gas, marine, utilities, or heavy industry preferred.
- Valid UAE driving license is an advantage.
- OEM training/certification (ABB, WEG, Siemens, LS, Cummins, Caterpillar, Leroy Somer, etc.) is a plus.
Skills & Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical rotating machinery, including LV/MV motors and generators.
- Hands-on experience with diagnostic and testing equipment such as:
- Megger, surge tester, Hi-Pot tester, vibration analyzer
- Oscilloscope and multimeter
- Laser alignment tools
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Practical troubleshooting experience with VFDs and soft starters (ABB, Siemens, Schneider, Danfoss, etc.).
- Working knowledge of AVR systems (Basler, Leroy Somer, Stamford, etc.).
- Basic mechanical understanding, including bearings, couplings, alignment, and balancing principles.
Key Responsibilities
1. On-Site Technical Support

Perform field diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of:
-
Low and Medium Voltage AC/DC motors
-
Generators and alternators (up to multi-megawatt capacities)
-
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, and motor control panels
-
Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) and excitation systems
-
-
Conduct comprehensive equipment inspections, including:
-
Bearing condition evaluation
-
Air-gap measurements
-
Vibration monitoring
-
Insulation and winding assessments
-
-
Carry out electrical and mechanical testing such as:
-
IR/PI, surge, Hi-Pot, and winding resistance tests
-
No-load testing (where applicable)
-
Vibration measurement and analysis
-
2. Installation & Commissioning
-
Install, align, and commission motors, generators, and associated control systems.
-
Verify wiring accuracy, protection settings, and system integration.
-
Support energization and start-up activities.
-
Configure and validate VFD, AVR, and control system parameters.
3. Emergency Breakdown & Fault Diagnosis
-
Respond promptly to emergency breakdown calls.
-
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures, including:
-
Mechanical faults (bearings, couplings, misalignment)
-
Electrical issues (insulation breakdown, winding defects)
-
Control and electronic faults (VFD/AVR-related)
-

Implement temporary corrective actions where feasible to restore operations.
4. Preventive Maintenance

Execute planned maintenance activities and routine health checks.
-
Collect and analyze operational data to monitor equipment condition.
-
Recommend preventive and corrective measures to minimize unplanned downtime.
5. Reporting & Documentation
-
Prepare detailed service reports covering:
-
Observations and findings
-
Test results and measurements
-
Photographic evidence
-
Technical recommendations
-
-
Ensure proper calibration, handling, and maintenance of testing instruments.
-
Complete job sheets, timesheets, and obtain customer acknowledgements.
6. Health, Safety & Compliance
-
Adhere strictly to HSE policies and site-specific safety requirements.
-
Conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements prior to job execution.
-
Ensure correct use of PPE, tools, and equipment.
-
Comply with UAE regulations and relevant international standards (IEC, NEMA, API, as applicable).
